Don’t put more than 10 items on a to-do list. Preferably, restrict your list to five or six accomplishable tasks.
Remember the Queen in Through the Looking Glass who tells Alice that she sometimes believes in six impossible things before breakfast? That’s a fantastic way to live. I believe in impossible things all day every day. Belief is essential to try. You won’t try anything if you don’t have a few dreams.
Neither will you get anywhere if you’re overwhelmed by the tasks ahead of you.
When my to-do list grows too long I become more like Melville’s Bartleby, nearly catatonic in my state of “prefer not to.”
Thus, I am making a new rule for myself. Never write down more than ten items at a time that need doing.
