Woe is me, I thought when I sat down and asked myself what I wanted to write about on my blog today. But how to label that, I wondered, and of course the only real answer is as a contentment diary. If I say “lol” here, will you read this as irony or sarcasm? Have you actually ever said “lol”? I have. A few times in my life I have caught myself saying lol out loud. If you have to say lol rather than actually laughing out loud, there’s a good chance the joke wasn’t really all that funny, though. lol.<\/p>\n
I got a rejection notice from CCCC (Conference on College Composition and Communication) today. You win some; you lose some. It’s frustrating, but not so terrible considering I got acceptances from NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English) and MLA (Modern Language Association) this year.<\/p>\n
I actually can’t afford to go to any of these conferences. I’m going to have to sell my shoes on eBay and sleep on the floor of someone else’s hotel room to go at all, I think. It helps to be rejected from somewhere so as to tell me where to pool my resources. But I would have liked to have gone to CCCC, and I got the rejection from them in the midst of one thing and another falling apart at work today.<\/p>\n

It was one of those moments when I could only say, “That’s nice. That’s real nice,” which is what all Southern women say when they are trying not to say a bad word.<\/p>\n
