Cornucopia <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The cornucopia of confusion<\/p>\n

is the one thing I doubt we are <\/p>\n

punished for in the end. <\/p>\n

Children munching Apple Jacks <\/p>\n

on God's living room carpet,<\/p>\n

how were we to even guess<\/p>\n

our own consequences, <\/p>\n

that an unkind word <\/p>\n

was so unkind after all,<\/p>\n

or the daydream, looking <\/p>\n

out the window toward<\/p>\n

the Pixie Stick store<\/p>\n

where nothing we ever <\/p>\n

came back with was the right<\/p>\n

choice in Grandmother's eyes,<\/p>\n

spoiling us for wholesome peas<\/p>\n

and sweet potatoes nobody <\/p>\n

mentioned took effort to peel?<\/p>\n

How were we to know any <\/p>\n

of that innocent failure meant <\/p>\n

we weren't in the right place <\/p>\n

with our minds on the right goal?<\/p>\n

Go ahead, children.<\/p>\n

Climb the neighbor's hill<\/p>\n

and slide down in your<\/p>\n

new clothes through damp leaves.<\/p>\n

Go ahead and eat the angel food cake<\/p>\n

on the back porch after everyone<\/p>\n

else has gone to sleep.<\/p>\n

You couldn't have known better,<\/p>\n

and someone tomorrow will laugh<\/p>\n

at the smushed places where you<\/p>\n

tried to hide your mistakes.<\/p>\n
