These will truly be “happensnaps.” I do plan to make a study of digital photography this year, and I do hope collect a more considered portfolio along the way, but my 365 project will be made up of whatever I can manage to snap on any and every given day as I run around taking care of my day job.
My main camera is a Canon Rebel T1i, an entry-level digital SLR. Entry-level is good enough for me. I’m very much a beginner, and I love my Rebel. I don’t like to leave home without it.
For times when I need something more compact, though, I have a Canon Powershot SX210. I also plan to follow the advice of Chase Jarvis, and rely heavily on my iPhone 3G camera. As the man says, “The Best Camera is the One That’s With You.”
I read somewhere that one way to motivate yourself to keep going with a 365 project is to buy yourself a new piece of gear after every completed month. Unfortunately, my budget doesn’t allow for this particular reward system. I’ve decided instead that I will buy myself a new book about photography whenever I complete a full month of my project or whenever I can afford a new book, whichever comes first. If you’d like to help me in some way, or give me a little push of encouragement for my project, you are welcome to visit my photo book wish list on Amazon.
I’m writing this on Day 1. I have 364 more days to go. I have no idea how far I will make it. I just know I’m happy if I’m snapping, and I plan to give it my best shot. Check in on me from time to time if you want to see how I’m doing.
